Location: Stewart Island, it is run from Oban the main town. The local DOC's (Dept of Conservation) office has all the details.

We went on Ulva's Tour of Ulva Island, off Stewart Island at the very south of New Zealand. It was excellent. We went by water taxi to a small island off Stewart Island and Ulva, a local Maori woman, gave us a fascinating, informative and friendly introduction to the ecology and conservation of Stewart Island native flora and fauna. It was one of the highlights of our trip and well worth it. Excellent tour and superb guide - a gifted teacher!!!

I agree the Ulva trip is for anyone whith an interest in the natural world. The guided trip, and there is more than one available, is easy paced but not even terrain. With a guide you can absorb and observe what is around you. A must for learning about the ancient forest and the balance of nature there. You can go 1/2 day or full day depending on the depth of your interest.
