Location: About 2/3 of the way up Lake Malawi. Nearest city is Mzuzu. Take a bus from
Lilongwe or catch the lake steamer Ilala from Monkey Bay. Minibuses are
crowded, hot, unsafe and irregular - not recommended for a long trip.

Great destination on the northern end of Lake Malawi. Great camping ground with chalets available too. Good food available at the camp or in the village if you want to sample local food. Market stalls with lots of lake fish available. Diving tours available with a guide run by an Australian. Nkata Bay is a destination for Ilala ferry which comes north from Monkey Bay, a weekly trip which backpackers love. Have a cheap haircut, have clothes made and relax at this easy to stay place.
